MONTHLY:

Air pressure
Keeping tires properly inflated is crucial for the proper performance and longevity of the tire.  Proper air pressure also effects the ride quality and safety of you vehicle.  When under inflated or over inflated, they can't do their job properly.  Under inflated tires can also result in sudden tire failure.  We recommend that air pressure should be checked at least once a month and before a long trip.  Also, don't forget to check the spare tire.  Always inflate your tires to the recommended pressure listed by your vehicle's manufacturer.  Lastly, make sure to check your tire pressure when the tires are "cold"--at least three hours after the vehicle has been stopped.  Tires need to be checked when cold because air expands when it is hot and contracts when it is cold.
Tire Cleaning
While there are many products on the market that you can use to clean your tires, we recommend that you use only mild soap and water and a soft bristle brush.  Many of the tire cleaning products sold in stores contain chemicals that can over time discolor the tire and cause cracking in the sidewall area.  If you must use a cleaner look for one that is non-petroleum based and doesn't contain silicone.
Visual Check
This is one of the easiest ways to keep your tires running properly.  Take a few minutes once a month and make sure that there is no visible damage to either the tread area or the sidewall of your tires.  Check for nails or screws that have penetrated the tread.  Also look for cuts, cracks, bulges, or signs of aging in the tread or sidewall.  Also check for uneven tread wear.  There are four different types of uneven tread wear, each one indicating a different problem.  Excessive wear in the center of tread usually means that the tires are over inflated.  Excessive wear on the both edges of the tire indicates that the tires are under inflated.  Unusual wear on the inside edge only of the tire indicates that the vehicles alignment is incorrect.  Excessive wear left or right of center is called cupping.  This usually means that the tire is out of balance or that there is a problem with the vehicles steering or suspension.

Every 6000-8000 miles:

Rotation
Regular rotation extends the life of your tires saving you time and money in the long run.  Rotation also allows a tire dealer to inspect your tires closely to see if any problems are starting to show up.

Common Rotation Patterns

Annually:

Balancing:
As tires wear the balance of the tire will change.  Therefore it is a good idea to have your tires rebalanced at least once a year.  When balancing, weights are attached to the exterior or interior of the wheel to counteract centrifugal forces acting on the heavy areas when the wheel is turning.  This will eliminate vertical bouncing and side to side wobble.

Alignment:
Alignment involves adjusting the angle of the wheels so they are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground.  You can usually tell if you vehicle needs to be aligned if when you let go of the steering wheel the vehicles drifts either left or right, or if you notice any excessive tread wear on the inside edge of your tires.  It is also a good idea to have the alignment checked if you know that you have hit something like a large pothole or a curb.
